This project involves maintaining a non-profit's organisation outdoor activity centre.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING ON THIS PROJECT?

Mountcook is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing access to the outdoors for all. Their adventurous activities include archery, bush craft, canoeing, high ropes, raft building and more. These activities are designed to broaden horizons, develop key skills and create lasting memories. The host provides high quality residential and non-residential activity experiences for a variety of groups, 365 days a year, and they have a very experienced team who are passionate about passing on an education and appreciation of the outdoors. As a not-for-profit organisation, they support groups who otherwise wouldn't have the opportunity to access the outdoors.

Mountcook is very happy to invite a group on international volunteers in 2020 to help with renovation and environmental work on their new site, which they want to improve for the benefit of all people using it throughout the year. Volunteers will have an opportunity to undertake some of outdoor Mountcook activities alongside the project work.

Volunteers will help with several tasks including painting, maintenance and creation of team challenge/problem solving activities, environmental work, including for example work on a sensory garden, maintenance and creation of educational trails, etc.

WHERE WILL I BE STAYING?

Volunteers will stay in shared rooms of up to 4 all en-suite with shower and toilet. Separate male and female rooms. There is a washing machine available. All meals will be prepared by the canteen for the volunteers, and there is also a small communal kitchen available for supplementary snacks.

WHAT ABOUT LEISURE TIME?

Mountcook is located about 25 km from the city of Derby, in Derbyshire. The market town of Wirksworth is within walking distance, with a range of small shops and single screen cinema. Matlock and Matlock Bath are accessible local tourist destinations, with super markets and leisure centre/swimming pool. Cultural visits and leisure activities will be organised by Concordia to visit the local area.
