Hosted by World Friends, this volunteer project is ideal for those who are interested in journalism, digital media or photography.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING ON THIS PROJECT?

World Friends Iceland publishes a magazine called UNA, where people can read about the work and impact of the organisation.

On the project yourself and the other volunteers will produce an issue of UNA through photography, videography and interviews. The volunteers will also create social media content for World Friend's social media platforms.

At the end of the project, you will prepare the final version of the magazine and publish it online. You will also participate in workshops about climate change.

WHERE WILL I BE STAYING?

This camp takes place in the West and the North of Iceland, so the participants will get the opportunity to go around during the camp. In the period from January to the end of April you will probably be able to discover the Aurora Borealis during the project. In the West you will visit an eco-centre. Nearby is vast amounts of pure and unspoiled nature, beaches, the Snaefellsnes peninsula, glaciers, waterfalls, rivers, canyons and craters.

Volunteers need to bring their own sleeping bags and towels, but bed and bed sheets are provided. Wireless internet access is provided free of charge. Food is included for the duration of the workcamp, however, everyone is expected to do their fair share of the cooking and cleaning. Volunteers are encouraged to bring along their favourite recipes from home.

WHAT ABOUT LEISURE TIME?

Hverageroi is known for having great areas for hiking, including the hot river in Reykjadalur. Places can you visit include: unique Icelandic sights, such as glacial lagoons, waterfalls, volcanic and geothermal areas, glaciers, geysers, lava forests, hot-springs, rhyolite mountain ranges, steam-vents or even icebergs.

Every evening, volunteers from different countries will take it in turns to talk about their home country and culture. You are encouraged to bring along some food, photos or anything interesting related to your country for a fun and informative evening with other volunteers. This project gives you the opportunity to spend an amazing time in Iceland with other international volunteers and to have an incredible experience where participants share their knowledge with each other while exploring creativity, environmental issues and intercultural learning.
