Hosted by our French partner Solidarités Jeunesses, this volunteer project is focused on historical restoration in the heart of France.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING ON THIS PROJECT?

The main task you'll be completeing along side other international volunteers is the restoration of a traditional bread oven's roof at Boissieres, one of the 12 villages Saint-Nectaire is made up of. You will be rebuilding it with flat stones called lauze. You will also be clearing and maintaining hiking trails.

WHERE WILL I BE STAYING?

You will be staying in Saint-Nectaire, the birthplace of the famous cheese with the same name. Its spa heritage dates back to the 19th century, and has left surprising and rich natural salt marsh and petrifying springs. Located within the volcanic massif of the Sancy, Saint-Nectaire marks the beginning of the Regional Park of Auvergne Volcanoes.

You will be staying in a cottage in Boissieres and will be driven to Saint-Nectaire.

WHAT ABOUT LEISURE TIME?

Saint-Nectaire is known for its famous volcanic past, which left numerous spectacular traces in the landscape such as lava flows and basaltic columns, pyroclastic flows, volcanoes (named puys) and a large number of mineral thermal springs, petrifying and salt springs. It is also famous for its cheese production, the cheese itself being well known and recognised by its European label: the AOP Saint-Nectaire. The Euroculture Festival also takes place in August which are encouraged to attend.
