Hosted by our French partner Jeunesse et Reconstruction, this volunteer project is focused on historical restoration in the heart of France.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING ON THIS PROJECT?

The International Construction and Heritage Center (C.I.C.P, Le Centre International Construction et Patrimoine) is an organisation working to safeguard and enhance the heritage, in particular architectural heritage, of the town of Viviers and its surroundings. For the past five years, in partnership with the local council, C.I.C.P has hosted international volunteers as part of the rehabilitation of part of the Maison des Chevaliers i: House of Knights. The House of Knights is the former home of Noel Albert, a former salt merchant, art lover and illustrious figure of the Vivarois Renaissance. Located in the old centre of the town, this monument is today the subject of numerous rehabilitation and safeguarding projects. If you have a passion for architectural heritage, Viviers awaits you.
The work on the south wing of the House of Knights is part of Phase 1 of a major heritage rehabilitation project, the culmination of which is the construction of a cycling stopover lodge, enabling the safeguarding and enhancement of the monument on a long-term basis. Various restoration tasks are planned including stone cutting, masonry and landscaping work.
You will be supervised by a professional stonemason, who will share their knowledge and enthusiasm with you. You will be volunteering alongside young people from a local youth group.

WHERE WILL I BE STAYING?

You will be staying in the old parish House in Viviers, located near the Cathedral and the belvedere where you can enjoy amazing views of the town and the Rhone valley. Amenities are on the ground floor, with sleeping areas on the 1st floor. The meals will be prepared collectively and you will be required to participate in daily tasks such as cooking and cleaning.

WHAT ABOUT LEISURE TIME?

You will be working around 4 -5 hours a day. During your free time, you are encouraged to explore the local area.

Located in the south of the Ardeche department, Viviers is an ancient episcopal city overlooking the Rhone Valley. Over the centuries, the town of Viviers has grown around the old centre and now has a population of 3,700. You will get to know the local community through various celebratory meals and cultural events. You will have free to access to local swimming pool and have an archery lesson!
