After a successful weekend at the Outdoor Show in London, tomorrow Tuesday 17th January Concordia will have a stall at the Goldsmiths’ Freshers Fayre from 12pm – 4pm.

Are you wondering what exciting new things you can get involved with in 2012? If you are up for a challenge, enthusiastic about volunteering, want to learn new skills, meet new people and boost your CV. Then why not become a Concordia Co-ordinator? We are now recruiting for our three day Co-ordinator training weekend 29^th March – 1^st April 2012, to prepare and become a project leader of an international volunteer group in the UK this summer.

We’re looking for motivated volunteers to help with leading an international volunteer group on a UK project. All you need is two weeks to spare over the summer, some previous volunteer experience, motivation to work with people from around the world, lots of energy, a willingness to learn and get involved and to come to our three day preparation training in Brighton. Easy!

What it is?

• A three day residential training on preparing to be a group leader for Concordia UK
• The training will cover skills from conflict management and intercultural learning to group cooking and team bonding!
• Once you have completed the training you can go on to co-ordinate an international group on a community project in the UK
• Projects range from environmental work to helping to prepare festival sites to working with children. We’ll discuss the most suitable role for you at the training weekend.

• Participate in meaningful community projects

How much does it cost?

We ask for a small contribution of £40 to help us cover the accommodation and food costs of the training weekend. Once you have completed the training weekend we would cover the costs of your project in the UK including your travel there.

Our partner Unarec is looking for a volunteer to help in their office in Clermont-Ferrand with theplacement of French volunteers on volunteer projects worldwide. The dates are flexible are can be discussed with the volunteers: from February-March-April to July-August-September.

Candidates should be able to speak French and must have had previous experience in a volunteer programme with Concordia. Accomodation provided in the town center near the office + monthly allowance.

The new programme for Summer 2012 will be released in March 2012 with over 1500 projects available. If you want us to send you a reminder as soon as the new programme is live on our website, please send us an email and write on the subject “Summer Programme request“.

Concordia have fully funded volunteering opportunities available across Europe.  A grant covers the cost of flights, food, accommodation, pocket money, training and medical insurance. These projects are part of the European Voluntary Service (EVS) scheme open to 18-30 year olds living in the UK with an UK/EU passport.

Enter our photo competition and you’ll be in with a chance of winning a free project registration! We want you to capture the ‘Concordia volunteer experience’ in a picture. We’re looking for dynamic pictures of volunteers in action!

Prizes for the best three pictures will include:

1^st – Free project registration or £50 worth of vouchers

The best pictures will also be used on our website, in our newsletters and for promotional material!

Competition Rules:

• This competition is open to all Concordia volunteers.

• The pictures should show at least one aspect of the project: volunteers at work, intercultural events, volunteers in the local community or life on the project such as food and accommodation.

• Please give each picture a short description.

• Closing date is 25th Nov 2011, after which the short-listed pictures will be uploaded onto our facebook page for a public vote.

• Please send your entries to francesco@concordiavolunteers.org.uk with the subject, ‘Photo Competition 2011’

• No more than five pictures per entrant. You may send more than five photographs; however, you must specify which five you are entering into the competition.

• Digital pictures only, no bigger than 1MB and in jpeg format.

• Please remember to ask people’s permission when taking photos and be sensitive to other cultures. If the picture involves any persons under the age of 18, you must obtain the consent of their parent or guardian.

• All entrants agree that by submitting the photo/s they give Concordia permission to use their name and image in promotional materials for Concordia.

Coyote is a publication issued by the Council of Europe and the  issue 17 released in July 2011 focuses  on volunteering. The edition also features articles from European Year of Volunteering 2011 Alliance members YFJ and CEV on a rights based approach to volunteering and on the economic value of volunteering respectively.
